We will be needing (1) media pitch hit for the fandom: Legend of Zelda (Ocarina of Time)

Given that a pitch-hit will need to read a 10k+ fic and then create something for it the deadline will be a little more 'optional', though it will be best that you be able to finish by October. If you think you might be able to take it on, please send me an e-mail at seizeglory[at]gmail[dot]com!

Thank you!

Posting for [community profile] hardmode is open now!

If you're still waiting on your media or still having your fic beta'd then don't worry, posting will be open until September 22nd so you still have plenty of time!

The Nitty Gritty details lie under here. )

I have lost my harddrive recently, and my spreadsheet matches along with it...So of course, true to Murphy's Law, I realized I neglected to give contact information to all the media creators after the harddrive crash.

Media Creators who lack their author's contact information: please e-mail me at seizeglory@gmail.com with your assignment so we can get that fixed asap!

Media Creators who do have their author's contact information: If you haven't already, please get in touch with your writer. The deadline has been pushed back to September 22nd but we will be allowing posting on the first. Ideally, your author should at least know what you have before posting starts.

If you need to drop out, please let me know so we can find a pitch-hit for your writer.

Authors!: If your media person has not contacted you by August 31st please let me know so we can figure out what's going on!

More posting information will (hopefully) be coming up before posting begins, provided that my computer is not smashed by a meteor at least.

If there are any issues of any sort, please do not hesitate to contact me! I will do my best to help answer any questions or resolve any problems. It's my job as a mod so don't feel bad if you need to come to me with any problems. :3

To writers!: I should have most rough drafts in my inbox now and I have sent a reply so the writers will know I received them. If you haven't got a response, please resend the rough draft to me asap!

To media folk!: Due to user error e-mail trouble, I was late sending the rough drafts out. I'm still in the process of sending them out now but if you don't receive them by tomorrow (August 10th), shoot me an e-mail at seizeglory[at]gmail[dot]com.

Now to the important part of this post!

We have four (that is 4!!!) fics in need of media! If you know someone who would be willing to do something for one of these fandoms (or if you yourself can do them!), please comment here or shoot me an e-mail! The fandoms that need to be covered are:

Final Fantasy VII (covered!)
Star Ocean 2 (both fics covered!)
Wizard of Wor (covered!)

Worse comes to worse, I'll cover them myself but uh. It would definitely be appreciated if someone else would be willing to take a few of these on. ^^;

edit: Thank you pitch-hitters!

I am not sure if I will have internet access when the rough draft due date, August 1st, passes. That is also the day when all media matches should have been made and I am still waiting on e-mail responses for media creators and betas.

It wouldn't be fair to take away the few days left for writers to hammer out issues, and it wouldn't be fair to take away a possible week's worth of work for media creators and betas. Since it would be better to give everyone more time than to suddenly cut it back, I will be pushing the rest of the deadlines one week back.

Rough drafts will now be due by August 7th. If you've already finished, then you can e-mail it as a .doc or .rtf file to seizeglory[at]gmail[dot]com, and I'll try and get it to your match ahead of time. Early birds get the worms first!

Media and beta'd fics will now be due by September 22nd. The posting still starts on the 1st of September, but we will be lengthening the posting period by a week.

You have used item Hourglass(es) x1. You now have Hourglass(es) x0.

Hopefully you have made the right decision.

ADDITIONAL NOTICE TO MEDIA CREATORS:
I need someone who is willing to work with the fandom Wizard of Wor. If this is a fandom you can take on, or you have a friend who is familiar with the fandom and is interested, please send me a PM or an e-mail at seizeglory[at]gmail[dot]com.

Thank you.

I have received 12 summaries and have replied to all of them.

If you sent a summary to me but have not received my reply, please send it again to seizeglory[at]gmail[dot]com. You may leave a comment here or PM me, to make sure that it reached my inbox and was not sucked into the nether.

If you're waiting until the last moment to decide if you can make it to the finish line or not, that is fine. However, I need the summaries by tomorrow. I will wait until it is the 27th in all timezones before making the cut-off, but please don't try to push it.

If you wish to drop out, let me know as well! It will make my job much easier to know who to remove from the list now instead of having to go through it later.

Thank you!

Your mod is an idiot. But you likely know that if you've been paying attention.

For the schedules I had written:
June 21st - 28th: Writers will post summaries for artists/mixers/dancers to choose from

...and then stupidly went about thinking I had set those dates in July for some reason. Which has resulted in understandable confusion. This is all my bad, so for those of you who stressed out over having to do anything, DON'T PANIC.

REGARDLESS, this has probably worked out for the better as when making the schedule, I somehow thought that the middle of the writing period was the best time to make author's to write out summaries. Considering that there's still people that are dropping out, then committing people to create for unfinished projects would not have worked out too well.

The new game plan is this: Writers will have until July 26th to either send me a e-mail at seizeglory[at]gmail[dot]com with a detailed summary and one 500+ word sample of your fic, or to drop out completely. This will let me see who will be done by the rough draft due date and also give me a week to contact betas/media creators and do last minute recruiting for the more obscure fandoms. Hopefully by August 1st, every writer that met the finish line will have a finished rough draft, and betas and media creators.

You can send me an e-mail before then (and I will love you very, very much if you send me early e-mails!) but you have nine days to get that e-mail to me. If I receive no e-mail from you by July 26th then I will consider you dropped out.

If you have not even begun writing yet, then you should either start now or consider dropping out. There will be a whole month to beta and fix problems, but the person creating something for your fic will be working off you're unbetaed rough draft. Make sure you have something that will be at least readable to them, instead of just rushing through the writing on the last day and handing in something full of inconsistencies, typos and other issues that will throw them out of the story and make them less inclined to give their all on their end of the project.

Remember, there's no shame in dropping out! Sometimes shit happens, whether life steps in and steals your writing time, or you've just had to deal with obnoxious writer's block. It happens and you can always try again next round if you can't finish it this time! If you think it'll be too stressful for you to try and finish it by the deadline, then that option is available to you. I would rather see people drop out and come back next round instead of people pulling their hair out trying to hammer out 10k+ words within the next week.

Unless you work better that way. In which case, may the deity of your choice have mercy on your wrists.

This should have been posted tomorrow but I uh, forgot that 15 (not 16; 15) follows 14, apparently. >>;

Regardless: WRITERS, how are you doing? We're at the halfway point and you still have about six more weeks of writing ahead of you. Do you think you're going to make the finishline and have a complete draft by July 31st? If not, you can either make a note that you're dropping out here in this post, or send a PM to [personal profile] vangirl.

Something I've failed to do is ask: do you need betas or cheerleaders? Many people already found some on their own and there...are not enough betas/cheerleaders to have one for every writer. So please let me know if you will need one or if you've managed to find one on your own.

I've also had a lot of questions in regards to whether or not it's okay that your idea changed somewhere along the line, which is probably a typical issue people face when they set out to write a longer fic over the course of three months. To clear things up: it is okay if your idea changes along the way, so long as it's still for the same fandom you signed up to write. I'm not sure how easy it'll be to find artists and betas again if the fandom list got a complete makeover so I'm asking that you keep to the fandom you signed up for this round. If this turns out to be an issue, then things may be changed next round -- but we'll wait and see.

If there are any other issues, you can PM [personal profile] vangirl. I won't be able to reply to things very quickly this next few days but I'll try to get to you as soon as possible!

Good luck and happy writing!

And now for the other, other moment the rest of you have been waiting for: Beta and Cheerleader sign ups!

Sign-ups will close at June 20th, though the sign-up period may be extended if there's a need for more betas. We're not sure if all writers even want betas, so there will be no commitment involved in your sign up, this is merely a show of interest.

A quick rundown so you know what you're signing up for:
  • A Beta is someone that reads the story and checks it for grammar, spelling and general quality of writing. Depending on the author's wishes, this may extend to checking for plot holes or details that don't fit with the canon. (Example: Writer takes a character from 1850s England and has hir drive a Prius -- unless it was intentional and the entire point of the story is time-traveling Priuses.)

  • A Cheerleader simply reads the story and then tells the writer how awesome it is and how excited sie is to see more. Your job is to keep the writer motivated and inspired to keep writing! (And if that fails, pressure. Lots and lots of pressure.)

  • You can do both at the same time, though it may depend on the writer's wishes.

Those bits out of the way, you can look through our current list of fandoms to sign up for!:

Now for the other moment that you've all been waiting for (for your artists/mixers/whatchamacallits at the least): Artist/Mixer/whatchamacallits Sign Ups!

Ideally, sign-ups will be closing by June 20th; however I am willing to extend this date if there seems to be a need for more artists and mixers (or even whatchamacallits.)

Quick rundown on what is expected:
  • If you are an artist, you are committing to drawing a complete polished picture that should ideally reflect one of the scenes in the fic you'll work with. There should be color and at least two people, or two pictures of one person if that is not doable for whatever reason. Please draw on something other than lined notebook paper, if possible.

  • Mixers, you are committing to creating a fanmix that's at least 60 minutes in length (about 12 songs.) You should ideally be pulling from different artists, but the songs must at least be from different albums.

  • Whatchamacallits, before you sign-up, please send me a PM about what you intend to do so we can try and figure out what sort of guidelines will need to be set for your quilting or interpretative dancing or whatever else you choose to do for the challenge. I'm sure there are plenty of things that could be done besides art and fanmixing, so don't be afraid to ask!

  • Whatever you choose to do, it will need to be finished by September 1st. Extensions may be made for some cases, but do try to get your work done on time.

  • Again, if you have any other questions, please ask in the FAQ and I'll try to answer them ASAP.

The moment you've all been waiting for (at least those of you who are primarily writers at any rate): WRITER SIGN UPS.

Writer sign ups will be closing May 3d! If you're still waffling on what to write, you have until then to sign-up. Once sign-ups are closed, they are closed (unless you manage to give me a very compelling reason to allow you in the running on May 4th. For the record: I am easily bribed.)

Quick rundown on what is expected from writers, otherwise known as 'rules':
  • You are committing to writing a 10,000 word fic. Not 100 individual drabbles, but one long 10k word fic. If you need to go over the minimum, that is fine too! But it must be complete and finished by the due date, whether the final word count is 10k or 100k. The rough draft should be finished by July 31st; that is three months to write. Posting details will be put up before the posting period begins.

  • If you have a fic that you've already started and want to finish, you can finish it for this challenge so long as you write at least 10k new words for it.

  • The fandom has to be from a gaming fandom. If for whatever reason, you're unsure that your fandom 'counts', PM me with the fandom in question and we'll try to figure it out.

  • If you have any other questions, please ask in the FAQ and I'll try to answer them ASAP.

With that out of the way, fill this form out and comment to this post to sign up!:

Comments are screened and OpenID should be allowed. For those of you who use OpenID, there is a special quest, just for you! If you have any desire for a coveted DreamWidth account, an item that grants you the ability to post entries in your own personal journal as well as communities, you simply need to include the phrase "I WANT A DREAMWIDTH, GIMME!" to the end of your comment and an invite code will be e-mailed to you!

Course if you don't want one, there's no need to complete that easymode quest. Arrangements will be made for those who don't have a DW account come posting time, but. You know, if you like to collect ~rare items~ then there is that!

Happy gaming noob hunting facerolling writing!

EDIT: SIGN-UPS ARE NOW CLOSED. I'll leave the comment open on the off-chance someone needs to make a last minute change, but once the fandom list is posted for artists/mixers/whatevers then that is finalized!

FAQ!

vangirl: (Default)
[personal profile] vangirl
What is Hardmode?

[community profile] hardmode is a Big Bang for gaming fandoms, specifically video game fandoms.

For its first round, writers will write a fanfic that is at least 10k words long within three months (Unless they are truly hardcore and decide to shoot for 100k in a month. It's not expected however, don't worry!) Once finished, the rough draft will be given to an artist/fanmixer/interpretative dancer and they will have the option to create a piece to compliment the fanfic. :3

Do you have a schedule for this round?

Yes we do! And it's updated for 2011!

April 1st - June 3rd: Writer sign-ups open. Writing period begins.
June 3rd: Rough draft and summaries due.
June 4th - June 6th: Summaries posted for media creators to look over. Claiming opens on June 6th and will occur on a first-come, first-serve basis.
July 3rd - July 17th: Posting period.
July 18th: PARTY TIEM!!!

The challenge will end by July 18th. Allowances may be made for those who have issues come up that prevent posting by then. However, "I'm still not finished" is not an issue that I'll make an allowance for.

Are all video gaming fandoms included?

Of course they are! If you can interact with it on a console, handheld, phone or PC, then it is allowed. The only rule is that you can pull 10k words worth of fic from it. If Tetris inspires you to write like that, then Tetris is accepted.

As a note for writers of the Final Fantasy games, there's also a Final Fantasy Big Bang in the works. If the higher word count and fall-time schedule appeals to you, it's worth taking a look.

Will OC-based fic be allowed?

Yes they are! Many games may require the creation of an original character as the first step to playing the game, and others may give a blank slate type of character that allows the player to define the character through choices later on in the game. We'd have to rule out a great deal of fandoms if we said 'no' to this. ^^;
