Round 1! - Writer Check-In Post!

Regardless: WRITERS, how are you doing? We're at the halfway point and you still have about six more weeks of writing ahead of you. Do you think you're going to make the finishline and have a complete draft by July 31st? If not, you can either make a note that you're dropping out here in this post, or send a PM to vangirl.

Something I've failed to do is ask: do you need betas or cheerleaders? Many people already found some on their own and there...are not enough betas/cheerleaders to have one for every writer. So please let me know if you will need one or if you've managed to find one on your own.

I've also had a lot of questions in regards to whether or not it's okay that your idea changed somewhere along the line, which is probably a typical issue people face when they set out to write a longer fic over the course of three months. To clear things up: it is okay if your idea changes along the way, so long as it's still for the same fandom you signed up to write. I'm not sure how easy it'll be to find artists and betas again if the fandom list got a complete makeover so I'm asking that you keep to the fandom you signed up for this round. If this turns out to be an issue, then things may be changed next round -- but we'll wait and see.

If there are any other issues, you can PM vangirl. I won't be able to reply to things very quickly this next few days but I'll try to get to you as soon as possible!

I'm well on the way. I'd hoped to be done by now, but it wasn't to be. Still, it'll be done by the end of June, never mind July.

I am afraid that I'm also going to have to drop out. My brain has been eaten by Writer's Block of Doom and, even if I spent every waking minute not spent at work between now and July 31st writing, there's no way I'll have a draft done. My apologies.

I have no excuse to drop out, to be honest, especially since the outline of the story is a no-brainer. Heh.

I'm picking away at it very slowly, but at least progress is still being made! Barring disaster, I should have a complete draft by the end of July.

If you've got a beta to spare, I could use one, but I can manage if you're short.

I've got approximately 3100 words with plenty of plot to go. I'm pretty comfortable with where I'm at. :D

...waitwaitwait. I can write a different fic, as long as it's the same fandom? Or does it have to be similar-ish? (Mine is coming along VERY SLOWLY - I'm not even a 4K yet, which for me is so fucking slow, but I've written 900 words of a fic in the same fandom while trying to write the other instead. So.)

As for betas - I don't require one, as I do have one or two I can ask, but if it's possible a fresh set of eyes would be nice. But if they're scarce on the ground give them to the people who don't have any first. *nods*

You can write a different fic as long as it's the same fandom. Since I've been asking for just fandoms and haven't specifically asked about characters and pairings, then it should still be possible to match writers and betas/artists/what-not.

I just recently got back to the computer after a few days so I'll have to see if there's any betas to spare for you but thank you for letting me know!

I'm at 6000+ words, though I expect this monster will wind up 10-15k. My pairing and plot are completely different, but I am in the same fandom still. I am very much committed to finishing. :)

I think I could use a beta or a cheerleader, but let me poke at my f-list to see if there's any takers first. I'll come back and update you when I know if I need one. My fandom is still in its infancy, and I'm so busy I haven't had time to get involved yet.

I'm far, far behind on mine. It's coming along slowly but I'm sticking to the general idea I started with, and I'm hoping I don't have to bow out. A beta would be nice once I have enough to decently beta, and a cheerleader would be awesome.

I was struggling with my first idea, but switching to a different story in the same fandom helped a lot -- now I have 4,300 words and a really clear idea what else is supposed to happen! I expect to wind up substantially over the word count; the only thing I'm really worried about is staying on track to hit all of my deadlines.

There is probably some quality time with Write or Die in my future.

Count is at 0, but this is only because I am juggling multiple Big Bangs, of which this has one of the lowest minimums. :-) I can do 10,000 in about three days if I put my mind to it, so I am being careful to pace myself. This will be done well ahead of the deadline. And, hey, it's Wizard Of Wor. I have room to spread my wings there.

As far as a beta / cheerleader goes, I think I can manage okay on my own. (That, and my wife is quite good at it, too.) If anybody here volunteers, though, I absolutely will not turn down the help. :-) And I am eager to do beta-ing myself.

I've barely started writing, but the outline is all there and everything else ahead of it on the list is finished, so I should manage to get a draft completed by the end of July. I have people who can beta for me, so no worries there.

Count is at...uh, I'm not at my computer right now, but I think it was something like 2.5k words (some of which I will probably be tossing out the window).

Things are going a little slow (fight scenes! argh!) but I'm not as bad off as I was for, say....Yuletide last year. So. I will not be dropping out.

My story is basically the same as my original idea, which is unsurprising given that I've been sitting on it for a little over a year now.

I could use a beta/cheerleader, though. I've got a few usual betas but none of them are terribly familiar with the fandom -- and I could use a canon beta, I missed out on a whole chunk of the games due to genre-hate D:

Bad news - I'm about a quarter of the way through my outline, and can't really figure out how to pare it down, which it desperately needs if I'm going to finish it this year, let alone this summer.
