Round 2! Mingling post! GO.
We'll be keeping this informal since I doubt the majority of people are ready to commit right this second.
This is a completely optional post for writers to toss up their possible ideas for this round so potential media creators can hop in and help the process along. People can also cheer on ideas that they would love to read, even if they don't feel they'd be able to create anything for it at this time.
Writers, simply follow this format when posting so everything can look nice and neat:
Later on in the writing period there will be a post for media creator's to make 'early claims' if they commented to this post and the writer has officially signed up. That will be...much later on most likely and I'll try to include more details before then. We'll see how everything works out before we set any ideas in stone just yet.
Commence with theexperiment mingling!

Character(s)/Pairing(s): Rufus/Tseng/Tifa. (no you didn't just misread that)
Vague story idea: Many many moons ago, my ex-girlfriend and I came up with an AU to the novel-length FF7 story I have been working on since 1998 (that is still not finished, ugh) in which Tseng manages to get Rufus (investigating the Nibelheim incident from Shinra's end) and Tifa (witness to the Nibelheim incident, maneuvering herself so she will be able to figure out wtf really went on) in the same room at the same time and says "now talk amongst yourselves". It winds up kicking the game events off about five years earlier, and turning your final party into: Tifa, Rufus, Tseng, Reno, Rude, Reeve, Aeris, Cloud and Vincent from the Nibelheim mansion's basement, and possibly Cid. Against old man Shinra, Hojo, Sephiroth (kinda), and Jenova.
I am not officially signing up yet, because I'm nearly 30k words in to it and I have only gotten to two scenes, and I'm guessing the whole thing is going to hit around 300k when I'm done. I am going to hope I can find a reasonable stopping point somewhere before the deadline. :P
Also, I should note that I am only working with canon from the original game, period, since it's an AU of a story that I started in '98 when that was all we had. So, nothing from the rest of the Compilation.

And hope to see whatever you can share when the time comes ♥

So, here's Tifa, who -- upon recovering from treatment for her injuries -- wound up with a job there as bouncer and server because Kyle owed a favor to the doctor who'd treated her (and had been looking for a bouncer/server anyway), and she caught Tseng's eye because she clearly knew the Wutaian fighting arts (my Tseng being an expatriate Wutaian prince who'd exiled himself to Shinra when he saw that Shinra was going to win the war), and eventually Tseng got out of her that she'd been born and raised in Nibelheim and had been there for the Nibelheim incident. At which point Tseng resolves that he will gain her trust enough to someday get her to tell the story, which he realizes is going to take a lot of effort since she clearly distrusts Shinra in general, and he decides that seduction is probably the easiest/most time-efficient way.
And she knows damn well what he's doing, and why, and lets him get away with it, because she's using him the same way he's using her: to get information out of him about Shinra's practices and plans. (At that point, she is not yet the leader of Avalanche -- okay, technically Barret is the leader of Avalanche in the game, but I've always thought Barret runs Avalanche and Tifa runs Barret -- but she is very, very sympathetic to the rebel cause.) And as time goes on, they are both rather startled to realize that, for all they're clearly on opposite sides (and make no bones about the fact; they have both been completely honest with each other from the very beginning), they recognize in each other a certain form of honor and ethics that they respect a great deal.
They are even more startled to realize that what started out as mutual manipulation has bloomed into something very much resembling love. Strong affection, at the very least. And they both walked into this with their eyes wide open, and they both know that it's going to fall apart someday when they hit something that they can't compromise over, but they're both willing to set that aside as a future that may or may not come to pass and enjoy their time together now while they still can.
And then Tseng brings Rufus down to the slums (in disguise of course) and sits them down and says: each of you have half the story. I know you have no motive to cooperate with each other, aside from wanting to know the whole story, but I'm hoping you can set aside ideological differences enough to pool your information and work from there. And it takes a little while, but sooner or later they do, and it becomes very clear that something highly fucked up is going on, and from there it's off to the races.
(Rufus is very baffled by the fact that Tifa is like, the only person in the universe immune to his charm. Tifa is very baffled by the fact that Rufus actually is fairly charming, and nowhere near as much of a monster as she would expect him to be. Tseng is just pleased that nobody's killed each other yet.)

And really I have always loved Tifa and am a huge fan of, well, anything that shows off just how kickass she is.
