The language used is beautiful - very true to the world, to Ashe herself, very in character.
Balthier was heartbreaking, knowing that he's getting too old to do what he loves but also knowing that there's nothing else he wants - or, in fact, is really capable of doing.
The children were a surprise. I typically don't get that attached to fanon children (even though I actually love kid!fic), but each one was quite lovable, particularly Rasler.
I loved the small pieces of the other characters; Fran's unwillingness to help, Vaan and Penelo's gifts, how Basch earning the title of High Duke but unwilling to claim it. It really brought it home that these are the characters I played with, that they're all still a part of each other.
It was the letters that really got to me, moreso to the children than to Ashe. The relationship between fathers and children is one that really hits me hard.
This fic was really, really painful to read and that means you definitely did an awesome job on it. Well done! ♥ Imma just going to go finish bawling now.
